解説 |
Oshi-e is a kind of Hari-e or collage, a picture made by pasting multicolored pieces of choth on a panel, occasionally produced by following the design of Ukiyo-e. Until around the Meiji era (1868~1912 A.D.), it was practiced to show a cultural accomplishment. ‘Oshi-e’ is a technique that is commonly used on Hagoita etc., a wooden racket for playing battledore. It is a picture created by layering pieces of raw cotton then covering them with thin cloth. In this study, on a wooden board, Enoshima Island and Mt. Fuji are illustrated in the background, then on top of that, the figures of people in the foreground are creating using the layered cloth technique. See a woman in traveling costume; an Ama, a female diver; a woman throwing money into the sea; a child entering the sea to collect the money; woman on an ox’s back heading to Kamakura; all scenes that are commonly observed at Enoshima Island. |
