Suzuki Toshimoto With the introductions of the western style paintings and photographs, many artist pursued realism in their landscape paintings. Among these artists, there were artists who succeeded the legacy of the traditional ukiyo-e painting styles. In this work, although the artist did not emphasis the height of the island, the depiction of the island is far from the realism landscape. The technique to express the distance by illustrating part of trees positioned in close-up, in the foreground is a typical ukiyo-e technique. The artist Suzuki Toshimoto was a pupil of Yoshitoshi, an ukiyo-e artist who was active during late Edo to Meiji period, and Toshimoto was active in Osaka. |
