Toyohara Kunichika 1883 Sawamura Tosshou II, who played Oguri Hangan and Sawamura Tanosuke, who played the spirit of a great serpent are illustrated with Mt. Fuji and a lake on their back. Illustrated scene is from the story of Oguri Hangan. When Oguri is playing the flute beside the Ichihara Field, a great serpent, changing its form into a beautiful lady, appears in front of Oguri. This spirit falls in love with Oguri when she enjoyed his music and saw Oguri’s good-looking figure by the lake. Although the name “Fujisawa” is in the title, the story is taking place at Mizoro-ga ike lake, which is located in Kyoto, and the actual view, with the composition of the lake with the grand Mt. Fuji can be viewed from present day’s Yamanashi prefecture.
