Utagawa Hiroshige II (Ryushou) The production date:1865 This is from a series of the Toukaidou Highway produced by Hiroshige II. Oiwake-michi in the title indicates a fork that separate the Toukaidou Highway from Oyama Road (the road to Mt. Oyama), which was existed in this place. The composition of this picture is same with that of Tsutaya version of Hiroshige I’s work with the same title, but the bustle of the people at the teahouses are illustrated in this picture. The guide post situated at the left that indicates “Oyama Road”, with a statue of Fudou Myo’ou (a Buddhist deity) on the top, is still located at the same place. |
