Futagawa: Ishikawa Tomoichi, from the series “Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō Highway” |
作者 |
Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) |
解説 |
In this picture, almost the same picture of Futakawa River illustrated by Hiroshige from the series of the Toukaidou Highway is used. On the left, the sign of kashiwa-mochi (the rice cake wrapped with oak leave) is illustrated. The figure in front is Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Ishikawa Tomoichi, who is the same figure of the great thief Ishikawa Goemon. One of the printing techniques to create luster on the surface shoumen-zuri technique is used at the costume of Ishikawa Tomoichi. This technique creates the effect to appear the pattern in the monotone black costume if a viewer looks it from the certain angles. |
