解説かいせつ

Jippensya ikku 1798 The Seven Gods of Good Fortune in this work are depicted not as dignified deities but as human and funny. The author, Jippensha Ikku, was a representative playwright of the late Edo period and is said to have been the first in Japan to live solely on his writing, thanks to the success of his Tokaido Hizakurige (Shank’s Mare: Tour of the Tokaido Highway) series. As in this work, he also created his own drawings for his early works.
