 Mariko, from the series “Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaidou”

解説かいせつ

 Utagawa HiroshigeⅡ 1854 Mariko post station was the smallest station along the Toukaidou Highway but this place was flourished as a rest stop located before the Utsunoya touge (Utsunoya mountain pass). The local specialty was the grated yam soup and there are words to indicates it in the picture.
