 Mitsuke : Tenryu River Ferry, from the series “Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaidou”

解説かいせつ

 Utagawa Hiroshige The production date:1840 Ferry of the Tenryu River is illustrated. The peaceful scene of crossing river is illustrated, and river looks calm, but Tenryu River was a river which often breaks its bank and known with its rapid stream. This series of ukiyo-e is called “The Toukaidou with Kyouka Poems” since a kyouka poem is assorted to every ukiyo-e picture.
