解説かいせつ

Utamaro Kitagawa Production date:1803 In the picture, the shopfront an Edo period ezoushi-ya (illustrated book shop) is illustrated. Many nishiki-e (colored brocade prints) are displayed in a small shop and tells us how ukiyo-e pictures were sold during the Edo period. In the shop, the commodities such as the ukiyo-e prints of kabuki actors, beautiful women, sumo wrestlers and the elongated pictures called “hashira-e (pillar picture)” are displayed.
