解説かいせつ

 Utagawa　Kuniyoshi Production date:1830-1844 According to “the Chronicle of Yoshitsune (Gikeiki)”, Yoshitsune’s childhood name was Ushiwakamaru, and he studied at Kurama Temple after he ran away from the capital. There is an anecdote that he studied under the tengu (Tengu are mythological human-like mountain dwelling creatures.) of Kurama Temple who trained him the sword fighting. In this picture, Ushiwakamaru is doing sword fighting training with karasu (raven) tengu.
