Artist: Kawanabe Kyousai Production date: 1863 (Bunkyu 3) A procession is passing by the monument of “Shigitatsu-sawa”, illustrated on the right. Viewing the beach around this area, Saigyou, a famous Japanese poet of Heian period penned a short poem. Later, a monument was built at this scenic place where the remnant of the period when Saigyo wrote this poem still remained. In this picture, two poets who kneel down to the procession are also illustrated in front of the monument. |
