Yamagishi Kazue 1947-50 Yamagishi Kazue (1891-1984) He started out his career as a woodblock carver. Then he studied under Kuroda Seiki and mastered western style painting. He carved woodblock designed by a woodblock artist Paul Jacoulet, who was also a pupil of Kuroda. In this picture, Kazue illustrated vivid yellow leaves of a ginko tree, which still exists today at Yugyouji Temple. In the other work, the peaceful Ryukouji Temple, the temple known for its connection with the Holy Priest Nichiren is illustrated.
