解説 |
Utagawa Sadahide 1864 The third volume of a series, this book contains a collection of illustrations by Utagawa Sadahide depicting various landscapes, animals, plants, and religious statues from around Japan. The term “shashin” used in the title, translates more closely to “real images,” rather than the contemporary translation of photograph or picture. The title indicates that the artist is depicting subjects as they appear in real life. The collection includes many illustrations of famous locations in Japan. These illustrations are thought to have functioned as guide maps for people on trips, and include labels for particular points of interest for tourists, such as shrines, towns, and scenic locations. The pages on display show the Iwaya side of Enoshima Island with Izu Peninsula, the Hakone mountains, and Mt. Fuji in its backdrop. Various locations within the island are also labeled. Utagawa (Hashimoto) Sadahide 1864 (Genji 1) This illustration book was produced by Utagawa Sadahide, who was known for his exquisite bird’s-eye view landscape drawings. He was called as “Flying Artist”. In volume 3, the paintings of landscapes such as falls, mountains and islands and also statues, such as the statue of Niou are illustrated. |
