 Hachiman Tarou Minamoto no Yoshiie: Kamakura Gongorou Kagemasa

解説かいせつ

 Artist: Utagawa Yoshitora 1847-1852 (Kouka 4- Kaei 5) In this warrior picture, the Minamoto no Yoshiie (The ancestor of Minamoto no Yoritomo) and another warrior who was active at the same time, Kamakura Gongorou Kagemasa are illustrated. Following his lord Yoshiie, Kagemasa fought at the Gosan-nen War (the Later Three-Year War) when he was still 16 years old. There was a legend that even after Kagemasa was injured since his right eye was shot by an arrow, he never stops fighting. Kagemasa was the ancestor of Oba Kagechika and Kajiwara Kagetoki who later fought against Minamoto no Yoritomo, when he decided to raise an army.
