 Author: Santou Kyouzan, Artist: Utagawa Kuniyoshi 1842- 1849 (Tempou 13-Kaei 2) Hazy Moon and Picture book of a Cat, 7titles, 14 books, 28 volumes This kusa-zoushi (light novel with pictures) was published with the collaboration of one of the most popular authors of light novels of the late Edo period, Santou Kyouzan and one of the most popular ukiyo-e artists Utagawa Kuniyoshi. The story is about a personified female cat Koma’s adventure. She falls in love with a male tabby cat, elopes with him together, being separated from him, and becomes a pet of a Prince Nadeshiko, a lady from a distinguished family. During the late Edo period, cats were chained as dogs are today. Kuniyoshi, the artist who illustrated this work was famous as a cat lover.
