Artist: Toyohara Kunichika The production date:1882 (Meiji 15), Publisher: Kamiyama Seishichi This sugoroku board game starts from Kyoto and the goal is Tokyo. For each post station, a title of a kabuki play, which has some connections to the station, and an actor who became famous with a character of the play are illustrated. The figure illustrated for the Fujisawa post station is Onoe Kikugorou who played Benten Kozou Kikunosuke, a main character of “Aoto-Zoushi Hana no Nishiki-e (The Glorious Picture Book of Aoto’s Exploits)”. This play was known with the more familiar title “Shiranami Gonin Otoko” (“Shiranami Five Thieves”). |
