解説かいせつ

Utagawa HiroshigeⅢ The production date:1875 Against the background of the Lake Biwa, the busy cityscape of Otsu post station filled with a vibrant atmosphere with many people passing by is illustrated. On the back of a cow that transports a wagon full of luggage, a straw-made sheet that prevent the heat is illustrated and this depiction was also done by Hiroshige I. At first glance, the scenery looks almost the same as that of Edo period, but a man with the hair style of zangiri-atama (a hair style that chopped off the chonmage, the traditional topknot), who is illustrated at the second floor of a shop and the electric poles tell the arrival of the modern era, the Meiji period.
