Toyohashi: Toyogawa Bridge, the Long Bridge across the Toyogawa River, from the series, “Famous Places along Toukai: Chronicle of the Renewed Japan” |
作者 |
Utagawa Hiroshige III |
解説 |
The Toyogawa Bridge refers to Yoshida Ohashi Bridge, which was located at Yoshida post station and was one of the three large bridges along the Toukaidou Highway. Yoshida post station prospered as a castle town, but changed the name to Toyohashi in 1869. The composition is the same as that of Hiroshige I's "Yoshida, Toyokawa-Ohashi Long Bridge, from the series "Famous Places of the Fifty-three Stations of the Toukaidou Highway" (commonly known as "Tate-e Toukaidou"). However, Hiroshige III's painting depicts people in Western costumes and a rickshaw crossing a bridge, showing the changing times. |
