 Minakuchi, from the series “Toukaidou”

解説かいせつ

 Utagawa　Kunichika 1863 A sight where the procession is going to take a break at The Minakuchi Post Station. In the foreground, a tea house waitress, receiving goods from a follower of The Shogun, is gesturing to guide him in to the house. Small flags of various colors that are hung in front of the tea house were called maneki (beckoning flag).
