解説かいせつ

 Utagawa Yoshitora 1863 This print shows the shogun and his entourage resting at a teahouse with a view of Mount Fudesute on the other side of the Suzuka River. Literally meaning “brush-throwing mountain,” the Mount Fudesute took its name from an anecdote about Kanou Motonobu, an artist of the Muromachi period, throwing his brush away in frustration at being unable to paint it to his satisfaction. The Sakanoshita Station was popular for its view of Mount Fudesute, and was among the most lively of the stations on the Toukaidou.
