Utagawa Yoshitora 1863 In this picture, women gazing at the procession of the Shogun passing by from an Inn at the Poststation. Visible in the right of the picture are several wooden tags hanging in a row. These tags are put up at tea houses or inns as signs for the “Kō” groups on the pilgrimage, to show reservations at the Post Station for a break or an overnight stay. The modern equivalent would be a pre booked tour. |
