 Okitsu, from the series “Toukaidou”

解説かいせつ

 Artist: Kawanabe Kyousai Production date: 1863 (Bunkyu 3) In the heavy rain, while sky is covered with black cloud, a procession is passing by around the riverside of Okitsu River. They all wear the raincoats made of straw. Two samurais, who hold swords and wear straw raincoats drive away onlookers before the procession is coming. “Seisei Chikamaro” inscribed in the picture is one of Kyousai’s artist names.
