解説 |
Artist: Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) Production date: 1833 (Tempou 4) The background scenery of this picture is based on the “Tsuchiyama” from the second volume of “Views of Famous Places of the Pilgrimage to Ise Shrine”. In Hiroshige’s Toukaidou series of Hoeidou edition, “Spring Rain of Tsuchiyama” he also illustrated Tsuchiyama in a rainy day. This strong image of Tsuchiyama in rain probabliy came from the phrase “ai no Tsuchiyama, ame ga furu (It rains at the rest stop at Tsuchiyama)” in “Mago-uta Song of Suzuka”. At the background, people wearing straw hats to prevent rain are rushing toward the teahouse located on the left. At the distance, in a ridgeway between the fields, a man covering his body with bundled rice plants instead of a raincoat is running. A woman is holding janome (bull’s-eye design) pattern umbrella and covering her head with black kerchief called okoso zukin. A black, two-teeth raised geta sandal she wears is called ashida and this is for a rainy day. |
