Utagawa Kunisada(Utagawa Toyokuni Ⅲ) 1833 Although the background of this picture is borrowed from the work “Saka-no-shita Post Station, there are two large Inns” from volume 2 of “Famous Places of the Toukaidou Highway At the entrance of Honjin is a large building used by high ranking feudal lords and their men for a rest and an overnight stay. It faces the highway where litters and other loads are carried into the building conveying the feeling of hustle, bustle and jubilance. The woman in the foreground is in a long sleeve kimono cloth playing a bamboo flute. From her gorgeous attire it is inferred that she is a young woman from wealthy family. |
