 Ejiri from the series Fifty-three Stations

解説かいせつ

 Utagawa Hiroshige Production date:1851 Ejiri was famous with its great scenic spot where you can view the beautiful Mt. Fuji from Miho Pine Grove. Although in this picture, the scene of farmers set out rice planning in rain is illustrated. Utagawa Hiroshige produced more than 20 types of the Toukaidou Highway series. The Fifty-three Stations of the Toukaidou Highway series “Gojyusan-tsugi (Fifty-three Stations)”, which will be exhibited in this exhibition, was published around 1852 (Kaei 5), in Hiroshige’s mature period. Since this series illustrated the large human figure with the landscape of the Toukaidou Highway on the back, this series known as “The Toukaidou with Figures”.
