Since the Kiwame-in sealed by the government is cut into half, it is suspected the original size of this picture might be bigger. There are many pictures that illustrated the scene of kaicho ceremony, an event of opening shrine, but this particular work is distinctive, since the title itself indicates the year and place of event. There has been men divers called Ama, who caught abalones in the sea of Enoshima Island, but on the contrary to this actual custom, the divers illustrated in the pictures are usually women. This picture caught attention since the men divers are illustrated. |
