Ogata Gekkou 1896 Women travelers are taking a break at the Shichiri-ga-hama Beach on their way to Enoshima Island. The landscape illustrated at the back of the travelers is Cape Koyurugi. Ogata Gekkou was a self-taught artist. He studied Kikuchi Yousai’s painting style and ukiyo-e by himself. At the beginning of Meiji period, he produced the designs for maki-e (lacquer wares decorated with gold) and cloisonné wares. He was also active as an illustrator of newspapers and magazines. |
