Utagawa Kuniyoshi 1818-1830 A Katsuo (bonito) is introduced as a local specialty of Sagami Region, in a series “Sankai Medetai Zue (Celebrated Specialities of Mountains and Sea)”, one of Kuniyoshi’s masterpieces from his latest years with the themes of local products from all over Japan. In this series, bonito is also introduced as the specialty of Sagami Province and this explains that bonito was a distinctively famous local product of this region. |
