This is a depiction of characters from “Kanadehon Chūshingura” (Treasury of Loyal Retainers). The likenesses of the actors are Arashi Rikan III as Tonase (No. 29) and Iwai Kumesaburō III as Konami (No. 30). Konami is the fiance of Rikiya, the son of Ōboshi Yuranosuke, a retainer of Enya Hangan, but the engagement looks like it is about to be broken due to the dispossession of the Enya family. Konami's step mother, Tonase, and Konami head to Yamashina, Kyoto, where the Ōboshi family is located, in order to push ahead with the matchmaking process. The backgrounds of No. 29 and No. 30 are connected. The background shows the pine trees of Yoshiwara-juku at that time, along with Mt. Fuji. |
