 Kezori-Kuemon: Hamamatsu, from the series “Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō Highway”

解説かいせつ

 Ichikawa Ebizou V as a pirate Kezori Kuemon with the background of the landscape of Hamamatsu with the great Lake Hamanako is illustrated. Komachiya Soushichi and Hakata Kojorou are also the characters from the same story. Kojorou was the Kezori Kuemon’s familiar courtesan and they are in love with each other. Ichikawa Ebizou V was a popular actor during Bunka~Ansei era, and one of the kabuki actors who were most often illustrated in the ukiyo-e prints.
