解説かいせつ

The background of Narumi (No.22) depicts shops selling Arimatsu shibori (tie-and-indigo-dyed), a famous local product of Narumi post station. In the background of Miya (No.23), a festival taking place at Atsuta Shirine is depicted. The background for both prints borrow compositions from Utagawa Hiroshige’s Hōeidō edition. The figure depicted in the foreground of No.23 is Ichikawa Danjurō VIII as Kagekiyo. Kagekiyo was a brave warrior who served for the Heike family.
