解説 |
Kofuyu is a character who appears in the play about the infamous bandit Ishikawa Goemon, Konoshita Kage Hazama Gassen. In the act of “Mibu-mura (Mibu Village)”, Kofuyu is almost sold off to become a courtesan due to the financial difficulty the family is facing. However, her adoptive brother Ishikawa Goemon saves her before her fate is sealed. During this encounter Kofuyu’s father Jiemon discovers that Goemon had become a bandit and upon this realization, attempts to commit suicide. In the struggle to stop her father, Kofuyu is accidently killed. The actor portraying Kofuyu in this print is Ichikawa Monnosuke III, who was a popular young actor specializing in female roles. He had already passed away before the publication of this print. |
