解説かいせつ

 This print depicts Umezawa Kogorōbe, a character from a genre of plays known as Soga Mono, which are plays about Soga Monogatari (The Revenge of Soga Brothers). The actor portraying Kogorōbe is Nakamura Utaemon IV who had passed away before the publication of this print. The background of this print depicts the scenery of Umezawa (current day Ninomiya-chō of Kanagawa prefecture). Umezawa was a bustling rest spot with many tea shops located between Ōiso post station and Odawara post station.
