解説かいせつ

Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun was Tokyo’s first daily newspaper launched on February 21, 1872. It was founded by Jōno Saigiku (gesaku writer), Ochiai Yoshiiku (ukiyo-e artist), and Nishida Densuke (head clerk of a bookstore). No. 964 was published in 1875. It features an article about Enoshima Ebisuya. The text says a new three-story building was built at Ebisuya and offers a great view, and popular actors such as Bandō Hikosaburō, Kikugorō, and Danjūrō are preparing to offer a name-dyed noren curtain to Ebisuya and visit the building. It also features an announcement of a special festival at the temple of Benzaiten in Enoshima from April 1 to May 20, 1875.
