解説かいせつ

Guide of Famous Places in Japan: with Illustrations of Famous Places This is a bird’s-eye view of the entire Japan archipelago. Its original is the Map of Famous Places in Japan, illustrated by Utagawa Hiroshige II (Kisai Risshō) in 1865. The Map of Famous Places in Japan was reedited and published by Hayashi Kichizō with illustrations by Hosojima Seizō (Sumida Ryōko) in 1879. This work is printed on a copperplate instead of woodblock, but the background of this change remains unknown. Illustrations of famous places around Japan from the One Hundred Views of Famous Places in the Provinces, a major work of Hiroshige II, are copied around the map. Unlike the Map of Famous Places in Japan which illustrates only the Japanese archipelago, this work is a gorgeously illustrated map.
