The Greatest Mountain Among Three Nations

解説かいせつ

Utagawa Sadahide
1847-52

A bird’s-eye view of Mt. Fuji and its brown rocky surface, a characteristic of the mountains at higher elevation is depicted. The mountain fills the entire frame of the prints. The print may have also served as a guide map for travelers attempting to summit. Sadahide is thought to have climbed Mt. Fuji, influencing this realistic depiction of the mountain’s geological features.
