Kamakura Enoshima Meisho Zue

解説かいせつ

1917, Taisho Meisho Zue-sha by Hatsusaburo Yoshida. This is one of Hatsusaburo's earliest works. Although the expression is flatter than later ones, it shows the characteristics of Hatsusaburo's bird's-eye views, which emphasized tourist attractions such as Enoshima Island, the Daibutsu Buddha and Hachimangu Shrine, which are painted in large sizes. Kamakura Station on the Yokosuka Line opened in 1889 (Meiji 22). The Enoden line to Komachi Station opened in 1910 (Meiji 43) and was renamed Kamakura Station in 1915 (Taisho 4). The terminus of Kamakura on the illustration is "Train Kamakura".
