解説かいせつ

Artist: Unknown In this picture, starting from Nihonbashi Bridge, the path to the destination to Enoshima Island is divided into 37 sections and the customs of the places are explained by poetries and illustrations. The mark “yado (to stay at an inn)“ is printed on the sections of “Honshiba (Shinagawa Ward)”, “Ohayashi-chou (Shinagawa Ward)”, “Kawasaki/ Kawanaka-jima”, “Aoki (Kanagawa post station)”, and “Miiri-chou”. Probably this work was produced during late Edo period, since an artist active during the late Edo period Nan’mei’s picture is in this work and the same artists and calligraphers who produced “Pilgrimage to the Enoshima Island: The Ripple of the Beach, (Author: Heitei Ginkei, 1839)” were also involved in the production of this work.
