解説かいせつ

Jippensha Ikku 1817 Jippensha Ikku (1765-1831) was a playwright of the late Edo period who wrote many popular novels, including Tokaidochu Hizakurige (Shank’s Mare: Tour of the Tokaido Highway). This work was printed on both sides, which was rare for printed matter of the Edo period, and the side on display shows the distances between inns, with the roads marked without gaps between them. The reverse side depicts a bird's-eye view of the streets of Edo, with Edo Castle in the center.
