According to the caption on the upper part of the picture, “When Oguri-Hangan is forced to drink the poisoned liquor by a brigand, he pretends to get drunk and escapes from it. Then, the brigand steals Oguri’s horse Onikage and ran to Mikawa, but at the end, the brigand is attacked by Oguri”. In the sekkyou-bushi or the oral-derived legend, Onikage is a monstrous horse that eats human. The episode that Oguri made the wild horse Onikage into his horse is one of the famous episodes of the story. At the Yugyouji Temple, there is even the grave of Onikage.
