Once traveler’s crossed Imagire Estuary, the ferries docked on the side of Arai post station. In this print, the docks at Arai are depicted with the estuary of Lake Hamanako depicted to the left. The Imagire Sekisho (Checkpoint) was known to be a strict government checkpoint, second to Hakone Sekisho, to regulate travel along the highway.

The scene of ferries crossing the Lake Hamana is illustrated. Maisaka post station was located at the eastern shores of Lake Hamana located at south. In order to get to Lake Hamana from this post station, people had to travel with a ferryboat at Imagire.This series of ukiyo-e is called “The Toukaidou with Kyouka Poems” since a kyouka poem is assorted to every ukiyo-e picture.

Ferry of the Tenryu River is illustrated. At the west side of Kakegawa post station, there was a junction that the approach to the Akiha Shrine was deviated from the Toukaidou. The bank of Oi River at Kanaya side is illustrated.In this picture, the scene with many Hirarendai are prepared at the bank is illustrated. The view of Oi River that flows between Shimada post station and Kanaya post station is depicted from Kanaya side. Since Oi River was a wide river and its stream was unstable, it was difficult to build a bridge over it or to run ferryboat service. People crossed the river by walk, and since it was the only way to cross Oi river, this river was considered the most difficult river to cross along the Toukaidou Highway.This series of ukiyo-e is called “The Toukaidou with Kyouka Poems” since a kyouka poem is assorted to every ukiyo-e picture.
