메이지 유신 후에 개통된 새로운 항로인 누마가와 강의 나루터 장면을 그렸습니다. 에도 시대의 도카이도에서는 하라슈쿠 다음의 역참인 요시와라슈쿠에 걸쳐, 도카이도를 북쪽으로 크게 우회하는 루트로 통행했지만, 이 누마가와의 나루터를 통해 해안을 직진해서 하라 지역에서 간바라까지 건너는 루트가 생겼습니다.

Utagawa HiroshigeⅢ The production date:1875 The scenery of the grand Mt. Fuji is illustrated on the top half of the picture, and Mt. Ashitaka is illustrated at the foreground of Mt. Fuji. At the foot of the mountains, a marshland called “Ukishima-ga-hara” stretches out. Since this post station was famous with the eels from this marsh, the scenery of people who catch fish by casting a net is illustrated.

It looks like a group of travelers stand by the Lake Ashino-ko. On the right, the specialty of the Toukaidou, the famous stone-paved road of Hakone is illustrated.

사카와가와에 걸린 목제 다리 위를 여행객과 인력거가 지나고 있습니다. 화면 안쪽으로는 하코네 연산이 이어져 있습니다. 사카와가와는 에도 시대부터 도보로 건널 수 있었지만, 겨울철 갈수기 등에는 임시 다리가 놓였습니다.

Utagawa HiroshigeⅢ The production date:1875 The illustrated scenery is Shigitatsu-sawa, a place famous with its great scenic view. At the foreground, people walk along the Highway lined with pine trees and the Sagami Bay extends on the background. At the foot of a pine tree, a group of pilgrims are taking a rest. Even today, many pine trees are lined along the Toukaidou Highway (National Route 1) in Oiso. A man riding a horse looks like a westerner. At the time, foreigners who stayed at the foreign settlement of Yokohama were restricted to travel around and permitted to travel only about 40 km from the settlement. Fujisawa station was located within the permitted distance, therefore there might be a chance that foreign travelers actually visit Fujisawa as illustrated.

바뉴가와 강의 나루터 풍경을 그렸습니다. 바뉴가와는 사가미가와 하류 지역의 총칭입니다. 1878년 바뉴가와에 최초로 목제 다리가 건설되기 전까지 에도 시대와 변함없이 나룻배를 이용했습니다. 바뉴가와 강의 나루터는 후지산과 오야마산을 조망할 수 있는 명소로 알려져 초대 히로시게 시절부터 우키요에의 소재로 그려졌습니다.
